Young Love, Partying and College

(Alter ego. Young lady is learning a thing or two by now. What she chooses in life says a lot about her character. Her upbringing. Well, she thought, this will shape the wonderful person she becomes today. So here she is, flaws and all. She would learn to embrace the inevitable, especially in her youthfulness).

At a later date, sometime in the nineties, Young lady and her father went to the Southland mall located in Hayward.  That year she started working at a Sears Roebuck, in the Fremont area. A fairly popular mall during that era.  Young lady started meeting different fellas, among them was a gentleman named Rod. He introduced himself, and they chatted for a bit all the while exchanging numbers.  A short while later, they went about their day.

It may have been that following afternoon, or during the same week.  Rod drove up to Young Lady’s house and brought a friend.  He introduced them. His name was Spencer. In her recollection, Rod mentioned his friend’s interest in Young Lady.  And provided Spencer’s number.

Long story short, Spencer and Young Lady started dating. He would often visit Young Lady playing piano.  Spencer sometimes came over unannounced.  He smiled while watching her play.  However, it got to the point that Young Lady was feeling pressure to constantly playing piano. It felt like routine for her and she started hating it.  Her brother Jeff took notice and both siblings at the time were really close and shared a lot.  One afternoon Young Lady wasn’t around; her brother had a discussion with dad that she wasn’t enjoying playing piano anymore.  Before she knew it, her dad confronted Young Lady and told me not to play anymore.  She had the biggest relief ever.  left off here…..

Young Lady really disliked it so much, that up to this day, does not lay another finger on a piano.  What lesson this taught her to anyone reading. Never force your kid to play an instrument otherwise they develop resentment or even dislike playing a sport or instrument.  She’s not negating teaching kids how to play an instrument or a sport. What is important is how you introduce an activity as a parent and how you approach the activity to your kids.

Rod and Young Lady hung out for a while. He would pick her up and bring her to lunch. He visited her at Sears while she was working and brought a couple of his friends. He was kind of weird, because he always split the bill when they went out on lunch dates.  In spite of that, they continued dating, for a while actually. For two years.  She was 18 or 19 at the time. Perhaps. She’s unsure, as part of her trauma is some memory problems. Ok her memory remembers she was 21 when she was dating Spencer.

On her 21st birthday, Young Lady’s family had a party at their house.  Of course there was some drinking.   They had had friends over. The house was packed.  But then, we believe she had too much to drink and unpleasant stuff happened in their backyard.  Otherwise, all other happenings were a blur.   The next day, Young Lady and her friends hung out, and Ana mentioned that Young Lady spoke inappropriately to one of Spencer’s friends.

Her early college years were crazy and she wasn’t thinking right. On top of that, during the course of the two years, Spencer was kind of a jealous guy.  Some dudes were checking her out and just talking to her.  He had a crush on one of her girlfriends, but she didn’t grumble or fly off the handle over it. It’s like, (Alter ego), she thought.

Let’s be more mature about this.  There’s going to be guys that talk.  It goes both ways; some women will want to bat their eyes at you. It’s human nature.  As those years progressed though, he was cool, and innocent. They were both each other’s first , and then that came to an end.

Young Lady’s employment at Sears also ended. She worked there for about a year, and then she wanted weekends off.  Her best friend(bf) at the time, also gave her a job at an Industrial film company, Fuji TrueColor.  During that time, Spencer and Young Lady broke up, so she was single again. One of the guys at the film plant was cute and got wind of their breakup.  They started chatting it up and started dating.  So, what happened is this new guy, we’ll call him Jake. Spencer and Jake go into it and it wasn’t pleasant. Of course not. Young Lady forgot to mention it, her ex and his friends were gangsters. Yes, bad news. Really bad. See the upbringing Young Lady grew up in? Unfortunately, she was attracted to bad boys during her young adult years. Thankfully, that is all in the past. Jake did not fight back.  Thank goodness.

She and her best friend Ana worked at Fuji TrueColor for a while.  About a year into it, one of the other guys liked Ana and he wondered and asked how Spencer and Young Lady communicated. Because there was a language barrier between them. And Jake was the quiet type, and spoke little English, if any.  Not that Young Lady was any better.  But, she can communicate the basic English language. Jake and his friends spoke Tagalog. One of the guys was playing, flirting with Ana sometimes, while she wasn’t really dating anyone for a bit either.  Jake was a really nice guy for Young Lady as a boyfriend and Ana really liked them together, Young Lady remembers Ana expressing this to her.   They all hung out for a while when she remembered moving in with her dad.  Not sure how that happened, but yep, living with her father until she wasn’t.
