One Saturday, this Lady, we’ll call her Queen woke up and started her day with having a cup of coffee. She had already made her bed. Did her morning yoga and light exercise routine. Made sure her place was clean to her satisfaction. Had a light breakfast. But also treated herself to a cup of coffee.
Shopping
She also walked around town running errands as part of her morning routine. For some reason, a little voice nudged her to enter the Kohl’s shopping center at the outdoor mall. She bought more than a few items than expected, but she figured. Why not? She hasn’t gone clothes shopping for herself lately. When she got to the cashier, the lady rung up her clothes.
She was standing watching the lady scanning, and then it dawned on her about inflation on the rise. Thinking to herself, quick alert! “Don’t go overboard with spending!” No splurging needed….
Inflation continues in Modern Times
“Excuse me, Queen said to the cashier lady.” What’s the total so far?” The cashier gives her the amount. And Queen, a little to her surprise, said. Oh, how about, let’s pull out the jeans. I don’t really need it. Thank you! The cashier finished ringing up the entire purchase, and Queen is thinking. (Inner voice continues talking)Geez, it’s been a while since I’ve actually gone clothes shopping. “Good heavens.” (Stay disciplined). Thank you Spirit💕
Can you believe it? Of course. This is no longer the 90’s, and 70’s. Good gracious, prices are high everywhere.
Gas prices. $6.00 a gallon. Horrendous much? These days Queen was thinking. This is the time to really budget finances.
Flattering for Her
On her way out the door, she headed to Safeway to get some groceries. She originally planned to buy bread and k-cups but wanted to hang around first and went clothes shopping instead.
So here she was now heading into the food store. Bought some spaghetti sauce and salsa picante for ground meat tacos she’ll eventually cook up for a delicious meal. She finished with her groceries and was going to walk home. But all this clothes and food shopping is a lot.
She decides to call for an uber ride. Though, the uber rides have risen lately as well from $8.00 – $14.00. And that’s a local ride less than a mile. Goofy much? She was praying for a bit of a discount for this one time.
The ride home
As luck would have it. She calls it a blessing rather. Her uber ride will cost her $9.93! That’s great. Talk about good timing.
Outside, there’s a seating area, and Queen gets to set all her shopping stuff on the metal tables. She’s sitting and resting. She needs to take a minute and chill. 7-minute wait on the uber.
Fantastic!
Such a warm day out, it was perfect. 77 degrees at 2:00ish in the afternoon. A beautiful day.
Uber ride pulls up on time, with a Toyota Camry. Very nice car. (Soft voice talking again). Tall, dark and handsome stranger (alert). But she was demure. Daniel was the driver. 😉
He puts the gear on park. He didn’t look anything like the photo on the phone. Queen noticed right away. Daniel steps out of the car and kindly asked if she wanted the bags in the back seat or in the trunk. She said, “trunk is fine.” And he brought all her bags in the trunk of the car.
They both strike up a conversation about him not matching up the photo. He replies that, he gets that comment a lot. But that’s the way the company had employees take their picture. He explained, employees have to pose a certain way against the camera.
Queen did compliment Daniel, after he asked her whether he looked more like the photo, or in person. She replied that he looked more like in person and better looking. (She was not flirting). At least not intentionally.
Then, she thought it was a little odd. He started asking her a lot of questions, like where she lived, and if she had family here, and who she lived with. And, if she was rich? (Wow, did you really ask her that?) Because of where she lived, he implied it. Queen mentioned, she had kids, but they were all grown, so not living with her anymore. And no, she’s not 🤑. Daniel was surprised of the fact she had grown kids.
She noticed, Daniel looked at her through his rear-view mirror. Making it obvious. What? She replied? (Thinking, she sees you peeking at her). When she said, she’s older than she looks. He had just pulled up to her place, unbuckled his seatbelt remembering her bags were in the trunk. She popped out of the backseat.
When Queen, exited the car. Daniel asked for her phone number. But Queen declined, and said, that’s not a good idea. (quickly thinking) That she was too old for him. (No, she did not actually say this to him). He said, “it’s ok.” Age is not a big deal. (She was thinking. Of course not. How do I get out of this one)?
Queen appeared a little bothered and spoke. “Um, sorry, but I’m not dating” right now. Daniel asked her. “Why not?” This question caught her by surprise. She felt like she was stumbling on her words. What was she supposed to say to that? (Lord, help me) get out of this one. And she went onto say. “Because she was dealing with issues” with her kids.
Which is partly true, but her kids aren’t living with her. Daniel pressed on. Ok, well maybe we can just “hang out?” She was stumbling over and over her words. Her reasoning. But, in reality, she wasn’t up to dating. And certainly not with a significant age gap.
Finally, Queen said. How about we meet next Friday, at 6pm? If she showed up, then she would be open to it. However, if she didn’t. There’s his answer.
She really appreciates the compliment and the gesture. But Queen tried to be honest as humanly able.
This gentleman is considerably younger than her, and I would agree with her. If you’ve ever heard of “the idea that the age difference should be balanced by the life stage of the partner.”
Yes, there’s also the importance of morals and values, but Queen in her logic believes, we should be dating a partner that is at least no more or no less than 7 years apart.
Others may beg to differ. Each to their own.
Daniel gives her a look and thought for a minute. He wasn’t sure if Friday, next week would work for him. So she said, how about Thursday?
She also didn’t feel comfortable giving her number, but rather, she asked for a business card from him, which he didn’t have one handy. Hence, he said, perhaps next Thursday.
Queen gave him the most appreciation for the pleasant ride and wished him a wonderful day. Very complimentary weekend for Queen.
